Removalists are professionals who aid in the removal, transportation, and unloading of furniture. This service is often needed for people who are moving to another home, or businesses that are changing office location. Removalist jobs are physically demanding, requiring heavy lifting, loading and unloading, and truck driving.

Responsibilities as a Removalist

There are many tasks that must be completed in order to make sure that the packing and transportation of furniture is done safely and timely. The main responsibility of a domestic services removalist is to safely remove the furniture from a home without causing damage to the home or the furniture. Removal also entails the proper wrapping and packaging of the furniture to assure safe transportation. Removalist hare in close communication with the customer in order to follow specific instructions about furniture and other objects that need to be moved.

As for the moving of the furniture, removalists must follow strict pick-up and delivery schedules. These individuals usually work as a team to remove, package, transport, and unload furniture. In most cases, the individuals who remove the furniture from the home are also the truck drivers. As such, removalists also have to fill out pick-up and delivery forms for every job request.

Requirements and Qualification

Most employers do not require any formal education for this position since it is not a very technical field. However, applicants are still required to have good literacy and numeracy skills in order to take measurements, follow instructions, and fill out forms. Physical fitness is one of the most important requirements for this position. Strength is needed to move around heavy furniture and equipment. Standing, bending, lifting, and constant movement is required in order to complete the task with speed, reliability, and efficiency. Removalists must be properly certified and licensed for driving trucks. They also have to be familiar with the area that they are working in. Compensation for this job depends on the size of the moving project, and the qualifications and experience of the worker.
