Pool Cleaner Jobs

Swimming pools of different sizes and shapes can be found in homes, hotels, sports complexes, and other establishments. One of the main concerns in maintaining a pool is sanitation. Pools must be kept clean at all times in order to avoid the build-up of germs, disease, insects, and debris. This is especially important in places where pools are constantly used by many people. Pool cleaners have the responsibility of maintaining pool sanitation by checking the water, removing debris, and adjusting chemical levels in the water.

What do Pool Cleaners do?

Pool cleaners have to work with a number of tools and chemicals in order to ensure a high standard of sanitation. One of the first tasks that these employees complete is to skim the pool for leaves, insects, or other debris with the use of a net to collect and dispose of the debris. The pool cleaner also has to clean the pool floor with the use of a pool vacuum or a pump. Filter and pump cleaning is also important since much of the debris that enters a pool gets collects in these areas. Tile cleaning may be needed to maintain the appearance of the pool.

Perhaps the most important part of pool sanitation is the use of chemicals to disinfect the pool water. By taking water samples and testing them for acidity levels, the pool cleaner determines what kind of chemical is needed to properly balance the acidity level of the pool water. Attaining acidic balance in the water will ensure that infectious agents, viruses, insects, and bacteria can not live in the water. If left untreated, a pool can turn into a dirty, disease-filled, insect breeding ground within weeks.

Qualification and Requirements

Employers do no usually ask for any specific education qualifications. Instead, employers seek pool cleaners who are experienced in the field. Experience ensures that the pool cleaner is knowledgeable about the tools, pumps, filters, and chemicals used for pool cleaning. Compensation for this position is scaled to experience, qualification, and factors such as pool size and frequency of pool cleaning.
