Plasterwork is utilized for many different purposes. One of the most common uses of plastering is on interior walls, which are thinly covered with plaster to allow for decoration and hanging. Plasterers are individuals who work with plaster through installation and reparation. Those who work in households are referred to as domestic services plasterers. For the most part, these individuals are required to repair any damage to plasterwork in the home.
There are basically three kinds of plasterers. The first kind is a dry lining plasterer. These are professionals who install plasterboards, which are ready-made, dried, boards of plaster that can be attached to wall lining. Another task of dry lining plasterers is to install wall lining for the application of wet plaster. The second type of plastering is known as solid plastering. Plasterers who work in solid plastering apply wet plaster to wall linings, and add solid matter (such as pebbles or wooden boards) onto the plaster to form a decorated wall. Finally, the third type of plastering is fibrous plastering. This kind of plastering requires plasterers with craftsmanship and creativity. Fibrous plastering makes use of molds, carving, and shaping plaster to result in decorative pieces for walls, ceilings, or other areas.
Most employers do not require any formal education for plasterers. More than education, employers seek experienced individuals who can help them achieve high standards of quality. Since plasterers work with different materials and hand tools, it is important for them to be familiar with the trade and have good practical skills. Good attention to detail, as well as numeracy and literacy skills will help in quality control and instruction comprehension. Communication skills are needed to work in teams and to communicate with the employer. Plastering jobs are compensated depending on their experience and the size of the project given to them.
