Other Jobs

The domestic services field of work is one that places employees in the household of the employer. These are employees who work in households and other places of residence to aid their employer with household chores. Common tasks that domestic services providers perform include cleaning, gardening, cooking, and babysitting. This is a very personal line of work wherein employees form strong relationships with their employers. For this reason, it is important that domestic services workers are honest, diligent, and trustworthy.

Other Jobs in Domestic Service

Aside from the usual domestic service jobs, there are many other jobs available in this field. In many cases, these employees are accommodated with room and boarding in their employers home. Depending on the agreements between the two parties, however, employees may only be required to work part time.

Some of the other jobs in the domestic service industry include the following

  • Valet - otherwise known as the "gentleman's gentleman," this individual assists a male employer throughout his daily tasks
  • Chauffeur - people who drive and accompany their employers for a living, thus allowing the convenience of being dropped off and picked up at destinations
  • Footman - a male labourer who completes tasks that require physical strength or fitness, this includes lifting and moving large objects, or simply serving at table side during meals
  • Security guards - these are personal security guards of the employer who protect and look after the safety of the employer's property
  • Bodyguard - individuals who accompany the employer whenever he leaves the house to ensure security and safety
  • Personal chef - as opposed to cooks, these are licensed and experienced chefs who prepare meals for the employer throughout the day or during special occasions

Requirements and Qualification

The requirements and qualification for these other jobs vary according to the position being applied for and the agreements between the applicant and employer. Those positions that utilize more technical knowledge and experience (e.g. Security guard), may require secondary or tertiary educational attainment. Other positions may require less educational qualification, but more experience instead. Either way, these workers must be trustworthy, hard-working, and pleasant individuals to work with on a day-to-day basis. Compensation for these positions are scaled to the position, qualifications, and experience of the applicant, as well as the agreements between the employer and the applicant.
